Revised Performance Standards of EPIRB & VDR

Revised performance standard of EPIRB, IMO Resolution MSC471(101) was adopted on 14 June 2019.

The Revised performance standard is applied to the EPIRB installed on or after 1 July 2022.
IACS made UI SC295 for interpretation of “installed” on the performance standard, but it is not submitted to IMO.
Therefore, instructions of Flag States may be applied.
Please refer to the Flag State Information for the interpretation of "installed".

Since performance standard of EPIRB is referred in performance standard of VDR as requirements of float-free capsule, amendments to performance standard of VDR, IMO Resolution MSC494(104) was adopted on 7 October 2021.

The revised performance standard is applied to the VDR installed on or after 1 July 2022.
IACS made UI SC261(Rev.1) for interpretation of “installed” on the performance standard, but it is not submitted to IMO.

Therefore, instructions of Flag States may be applied.

Japanese flag vessels

Since Japanese law related to EPRIB and VDR has been amended, EPIRB and VDR Float-free recording medium installed on or after 1 January 2024 shall be approved by JG/HK in compliance with the revised performance standard MSC.471(101) or MSC.494(104).
