Audit and Registration of Maritime Security Systems

The infamous terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on 11 September 2001 were the preface to the follows. Chapter XI-2 Special Measures to Enhance Maritime Security was adopted by the IMO as a new chapter in the SOLAS Convention, The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, referred to in this new chapter of SOLAS, came into effect on 1 July 2004

All passenger ships and cargo ships of 500 GT and above, engaged in international voyages must conform with the Cord and will be required to possess an International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC).

ClassNK conducts such audits on behalf of flag Administrations and issues International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) under their authority. ClassNK boasts a largest share of the registered ships in the world, as same as Registration of SMS, according the International Association of Classification Society (IACS). And ClassNK conducts approval of Ship Security Plan (SSP) on behalf of flag Administrations also.

ClassNK has been authorized to carry out ISPS Code related audits and approval of SSP as a Recognized Security Organization (RSO) on behalf of more than 40 flag Administrations world wide, including the Government of Japan.
