Common Structural Rules (CSR)
With the development of CSR, there is now one common set of rules for tankers and bulk carriers. This allows for greater safety and transparency than the previous system, where there was one set of rules from each class society.
The Society has played a leading role in developing the CSR for Bulk Carriers, making use of the wealth of data and extensive technical experience it has accumulated over more than a century of ship classification.
The Society also provides briefings both at home and abroad whenever a rule is amended or a new rule is added to the CSR. The Hull Department of the Society also provides consultation services and is happy to provide answers to a variety of technical questions and respond to requests for technical support.
