ClassNK co-hosted the Smart Freight Maritime Fall Meeting
ClassNK co-hosted the event Smart Freight Maritime Fall Meeting with the Smart Freight Center (*1/ hereinafter referred to as SFC) on 17th and 18th October.
On 17th October, a meeting of the Global Ro-Ro Committee (*2/ hereinafter referred to as GRC), in which ClassNK participates as an observer, was held. In this meeting, GRC method members presented an overview and key points of the ongoing development of a GHG emissions calculation method for Ro-Ro vessels. The presentation was directed towards automotive manufacturers, forwarders, and trading companies who attended the meeting.
On 18th October, participants in SFC’s Clean Cargo Program were provided with the latest GHG-related information for container ships from speakers invited by SFC.
At the networking event on the evening of 17th October, which was attended by stakeholders from both the Ro-Ro and container ship sectors, Yoshiya Yamaguchi, Executive Vice President of ClassNK, announced that ClassNK will continue to collaborate with SFC and actively address issues related to GHG reduction faced by customers, starting with the GRC program.
As stated in the announcement above, our organization will continue to contribute to the decarbonization efforts of all stakeholders not only through inspections and certifications, but also by fostering various collaborative partnerships.
(*1) Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands, working globally to address climate change in the freight transport sector.
(*2) A committee in the SFC program, aiming to establish unified standards to accelerate the decarbonization process in the Ro-Ro and PCC industry. It is composed of the following two groups:
Method Committee: Consists of Ro-Ro and PCC shipping companies that are members of SFC and discusses the calculation methodology, including technical aspects.
Associated Group: Open to all stakeholders, gathering feedback and opinions to be provided to the Method Committee.
