BNWAS News

1. Application ships

(1) All cargo ships of 150 GT and upwards; and

(2) Passenger ships irrespective of size.

2. Application due date

New amendment shall be applied to the following types of ships:
IMO Resolution MSC.350(92) was adopted on 21 June 2013 and prescribes application for ships constructed before 1 July 2002.
Regarding Japanese Flag ships, application date for ships constructed on or after 1 July 2002 is applied to ships constructed before 1 July 2002.

(1) Passenger ships constructed before 1 July 2002, not later than the first SE survey after 1 January 2016;

(2) Cargo ships of 3,000 GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2002, not later than the first SE survey after 1 January 2016;

(3) Cargo ships of 500 GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2002, not later than the first SE survey after 1 January 2017; and

(4) Cargo ships of 150 GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2002, not later than the first SE survey after 1 January 2018.

(5) Administrations may exempt ships from the application of the requirement specified in (1) to (4) above when such ships will be taken permanently out of service within two years after the implementation date specified in (1) to (4) above.

(6) For ships constructed on or after 1 July 2002;

(i) All ships of 150 GT and upwards constructed on or after 1 July 2011, not later than the initial SE survey;

(ii) Passenger ships constructed before 1 July 2011, not later than the first SE survey after 1 July 2012;

(iii) Cargo ships of 3,000 GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2011, not later than the first SE survey after 1 July 2012;

(iv) Cargo ships of 500 GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2011, not later than the first SE survey after 1 July 2013;

(v) Cargo ships of 150GT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2011, not later than the first SE survey after 1 July 2014; and

(vi) Ships constructed before 1 July 2011 but delivered after the due dates of (2) to (5) above, not later than the initial SE survey.

3. BNWAS shipborne equipment

(1) BNWAS is complied with the requirements of IMO MSC.128(75) and of type approved by the Administration or Classification.

(2) BNWAS which was complied with the requirements of BNWAS List of approved BNWAS.List of approved BNWAS

(3) Regarding BNWAS installed on board before 1 July 2011, DOC to the MSC.128(75) issued by the manufacturer should be kept on board the ship.
When the BNWAS is not fully complied with the MSC.128(75), Exemption from the Flag State should be obtained.

4. Survey

(1) The survey for BNWAS should be conducted on the SE survey on or after 1 July 2011.

(2) At the initial survey, ClassNK verifies the type-approval certificate, electric source, alarm sequence for bridge indication and alarm, remote audible alarms and reset functions.
When the BNWAS installed before 1 July 2011, the installation report should be kept on board the ship.
After satisfactory completion of the SE survey, A survey report will be issued and Form-E entered the BNWAS and new SE Certificate are issued for ship, of 500 GT and upwards, engaged on international voyages.
