Updates of the EU regulation on monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (EU MRV)
As already informed by the ClassNK Technical Information TEC-1031 (2 June 2015), EU regulation on monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (EU MRV) was entered into force on 01 July 2015.
This regulation lays down rules for developing the Monitoring Plan and submitting the Emission Report to the verifiers accredited by the national accreditation body in EU for ships above 5,000 gross tonnage, which arrive at or depart from ports under the jurisdiction of an EU member state.
The shipping companies (ship-owner, ship manager or responsible organization or person for operation) are required to submit Monitoring Plant to the accredited verifier by 31 August 2017, and do hope that the companies are prudent in preparing the monitoring plan well before the due date as mentioned above.
ClassNK has made and is devoting considerable efforts to get accreditation from the national accreditation body by the end of March 2017. At the same time, ClassNK actively participates as a member of the ESSF shipping MRV verification and accreditation subgroup related for enacting detailed regulations, continues to watch the movement of enacting technical detailed regulations at the European Commission and provides the latest information on this matter.
