Considering the various problems created by unintended activations of DSC distress alerts and DSC distress relay alerts, Hong Kong Marine Department has issued "Hong Kong Merchant Shipping Notice No.1024 (23 March 2000)" concerning the procedure for responding to DSC distress alerts by ships.
In the Notice, masters, officers and radio personnel serving on Hong Kong registered ships are urged to comply with the advice given in the COMSAR/Circ.21 (25 January 2000) and to display the flow diagrammes indicating the procedure for responding to DSC distress alerts as par attached to the COMSAR/Circ.21 on the bridge.

It is sincerely recommended that an appropriate action should be taken in accordance with the Notice. For easy reference, a copy of COMSAR/Circ.21 is attached hereto.
