Regulation V/12(p) of the 1988 Amendments to 1974SOLAS Convention specifies the requirements for installation of a radio direction finder and for exemption from its installation on certain conditions.

The Libyan Government has notified the Society about the condition for exemption from the installation of a radio direction finder, which is reproduced together with the procedures for exemption below for your information and necessary arrangements.

Conditions and Procedures for Exemption from Installation of a Radio Direction Finder (RDF) on Libyan Ships

1 Conditions for exemption
The ship should be fitted with a GPS receiver.
2 Procedures for exemption
-1 Shipowners or shipbuilders who may wish to apply for exemption from installation of an RDF are requested to submit an application with information about the name of the manufacturer and the type/model of the GPS receiver to the nearest branch office of the Society.
-2 The Society, after examining the documents submitted and ascertaining satisfaction of the conditions for exemption at an SE survey, will issue an Exemption Certificate.
