It have been informed in the Technical Information No.160 with regard to immersion suits and thermal protective aids for Maltese registered cargo ships not equipped with totally enclosed/free-fall launching lifeboats.

We hereunder summarize the Maltese requirements as contained in the Technical Information No. 160 and inform you as to issuance of exemption certificate to Safety Equipment Certificate.

In this respect, the Technical Information No. 160 is revoked and replaced with this Information.

(Note)
(*1) Immersion suits and thermal protective aids need not be provided on ships which only
trade between the latitudes of 20°N and 20°S.
(*2) -The areas surrounded by latitude 65°N of the North Atlantic Ocean, 55°N of the North
Pacific Ocean and 50°S and
-The east of longitude 10°E in the Kattegat and Baltic Sea between 1 May and 30 November,
both dates inclusive.
(*3) In case where it is intended to voyage beyond the navigation areas of (*2)above, an
immersion suit is to be provided for every person on board. This society will re-issue the
Safety Equipment Certificate and the Record of Equipment for the SE Certificate upon confirmation
of satisfactory results where Exemption Certificate has been issued or Safety Equipment Certificate
has been endorsed limiting the navigation area in (*2).
