On 15 September 2004, the government of Panama has issued Resolution DPM No. 029-2004, authorizing most of the IACS member classification societies, including ClassNK, to approve Ship Security Plan (SSP) on its behalf. In response to this resolution, ClassNK establishes the approval procedure of the SSP for ships registered in Panama as follows. The new procedure comes into force immediately.

1. The new SSP for ship with new delivery or new management can be approved by ClassNK. In the same manner done for the ships registered in other flags, please forward application documents together with two copies of SSP and one copy of SSA report to ClassNK, Safety Management Systems Department.

2. In case ships changes the flag to Panama, ClassNK can approve the SSP now. Please forward two copies of SSP and one copy of SSA report in addition to the relevant application document. Please also forward one copy of SSP approved under previous flag.

Please note that amendments to the SSP (including amendments on SSAS) which has been approved by the RSO other than the Society (such as STET, PVS or USG) cannot be approved by those other than such RSO or the Administration. Thus, ClassNK cannot approve the amendments to the SSP at this moment. When there is a change of this procedure, there will be a separate notice.
