Carriage of immersion suits on cargo ships flying Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka Flag
1. The Hong Kong government has notified of carriage of immersion suits for that flagged ships as follows.
(1) At least two immersion suits should be provided in wheel house and engine control room respectively as additional immersion suits. The same number of immersion suits as life-jackets at the wheel house and engine control room are required (i.e. if 3 life-jackets are required at the wheel house then 3 immersion suits are required at the wheel house).
(2) If ship has other watch or work stations and life-jackets has already been provided, for example, cargo control room of chemical tanker, in the forecastle for the lookout(s) on duty in fog / under restricted visibility etc., the same number of immersion suits as life-jackets are required to such stations. Mooring stations (fore & aft) are not included in the above watch or work stations.
2. The Singapore government has notified of carriage of immersion suits for that flagged ships as follows.
(1) The number of immersion suits to be provided in compliance with Reg. III/32.3 of SOLAS 74 should correspond to the total number of persons indicated in Section 2.1 (Total number of persons for which life-saving appliances are provided) of Form E (Record of Equipment for the Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate).
(2) Additional immersion suits should be provided in watch or work stations which are located remotely from the place or places where immersion suits are normally stowed according to the following:
(i) Wheel House
(a) One set for each duty personnel
(b) One set for each deep-sea pilots if required by shipboard operation
(ii) Engine Room
(a) One set for each duty personnel
(b) One set for each day worker in periodically unattended machinery space
(iii) Cargo Control Room a)
One set for each person
(iv) Cargo Pump Room
One set for each person
