Instructions from the several flag states regarding periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear were informed by ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0693 dated 12 April 2007, TEC-0721 dated 26 December 2007 and TEC-0784 dated 10 September 2009.
Isle of Man Ship Registry has informed ClassNK of new instruction on this matter as follows:

[Point of Instruction]
The periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear are to be conducted by authorized service provider in accordance with MSC/Circ.1277. The Isle of Man Ship Registry will only 'authorize' service providers based in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man Ship Registry will also 'accept' service providers authorized by the Administration or a 'Recognised Classification Society' where the service provider has its principal place of business.
If a service provider approved in accordance with MSC/Circ.1277 is not available, but one has been sourced with manufacturer's approval, then case by case approval should be sought from The Isle of Man Ship Registry. [mailto:marine.survey@gov.im]
