Since its inception in 1899, ClassNK has been engaged in a range of activities dedicated to ensuring the safety of life and property at sea and protecting the marine environment over the course of its over 120 years history as a leading classification society.

ClassNK conducts surveys from its worldwide service network of around 130 offices to ensure that all new and existing ships and offshore structures fully comply with the classification rules developed by the Society. The rules cover not only hull structures, but also propulsion systems, electrics and electronic systems, safety equipment, cargo handling gear, various materials and navigational equipment, among other systems and components. ClassNK has authorization from over 100 flag administrations around the world to conduct statutory surveys and issue certifications in accordance with international conventions and national rules and regulations.

As an internationally recognized third-party certification body, the society also provides certification for quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems in accordance with international standards, as well as engaging in innovative R&D projects and developing IT solutions to help the industry tackle current and emerging challenges. Through these activities and by providing maritime stakeholders with the most up-to-date technical information via technical seminars and through our website, ClassNK provides a diverse range of services to the maritime industry.

ClassNK will use its expertise and practical experience accumulated over many years to continue contributing to the long-term development of the maritime cluster.
