NK has started offering a new technical service, Emergency Technical Assistance Service (ETAS), to shipowners or their representatives. ETAS is to, in the event of a serious casualty to a ship, immediately performs the computer analysis of damage stability and damage longitudinal strength and provides technical advices necessary for ensuring the ship's safety and prevention or mitigation of marine pollution. ETAS satisfies the relevant requirements of Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan which is required by the amended Annex I of MARPOL 73/78 which will enter into force on 4 April 1993.
