In accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Safety) (Navigational Equipment) Regulation 1991, navigational equipment installed on Hong Kong registered ships should comply with the relevant performance standards adopted by IMO.

This is informing you of the following requirements of Hong Kong Marine Department shown in the Hong Kong Merchant Shipping Notice 31/1998 for the performance standards of radar and echo-sounding equipment. It is sincerely recommended that appropriate arrangements should be made for radar and echo-sounding equipment referred to ensure compliance with these performance standards.

1. Radar to be installed on a ship on or after 1 January 1999 should comply with the performance standards in the Annex 4 to Resolution MSC.64(67) adopted by MSC on 4 December 1996.
2. Echo-sounding Equipment to be installed on a ship on or after 1 January 2001 should comply with the performance standards in the Annex 4 to Resolution MSC.74(69) adopted by MSC on 12 May 1998.
