The requirements of the Maltese Government for radio personnel on board its flag GMDSS ships are given in NK Technical Information No. 293 of 16 Dec. 1998.
The Maltese Government has notified the Society of its revised requirements in this respect, which is reproduced below for your information/necessary arrangements.

Required Radio Personnel on Board Maltese Flag GMDSS Ships

For ships adopting maintenance method other than onboard maintenance,
(Cargo ships)
- Two Deck Officers all holders of a General Operator's Certificate (GOC), or
- One Dedicated Radio Officer also holder of a GOC.
(Passenger ships)
- Three Deck Officers all holders of a GOC, or
- Two Deck Officers and one Dedicated Radio Officer all holders of a GOC, or
- One Deck Officer and two Dedicated Radio Officers all holders of a GOC.
(Note) "Dedicated Radio Officer" means the person who have no other responsibilities onboard other than those related to radio communications.

For ships adopting onboard maintenance as maintenance methods,
The person designated to perform such functions shall be in possession of either a 1st Class or 2nd Class Radio Electronic Certificate (REC) or equivalent.
