The Maltese Government has notified the Society of carriage requirements for GPS receivers on board the Malta Flag ships, which is reproduced below for information/action:

The Malta Flag ships constructed on and after 1 July 2002 and to which the Regulation V/19.1.1 of the SOLAS 2000 amendments apply, and those constructed before 1 July 2002 and required to install a navigation receiver not later than the first SE survey after that date in accordance with the Regulation V/19.1.2.2 of the SOLAS 2000 amendments shall install;

- Two independent GPS receivers conforming to performance standards set out in IMO Resolution A.819(19), as amended by resolution MSC.112(73). A GPS receiver installed as an integral part to the onboard GMDSS installation may also be considered as one of the units required.
