Installation of immersion suits on board Danish flagged vessels
The Denmark Government have notified of carriage of immersion suits for that flagged ships as follows.
1. One immersion suit to be provided for each person on board (as per lifesaving capacity/in compliance with the record (Form E) of the safety equipment certificate). The suits must be of approved type in accordance with the LSA Code and must be provided in sizes appropriate for the crew on board, also note that immersion suits on board Danish flagged vessels must be of a type with built-in insulation and buoyancy.
2. Additional immersion suits to be supplied on the bridge and in the engine room (two (2) at each location).
(1) For the bridge the following to be taken into consideration.
(i) For vessels with limited space on the bridge, no additional immersion suits are required if the main stowage position of the ship's immersion suits is in close vicinity, meaning easily accessible both for the bridge personnel and for the rest of the crew. Stowage of immersion suits is recommended to be in a protected environment (ref. 5.).
(ii) When considering an alternative stowage arrangement of immersion suits for the bridge area the ship owner must document that the same level of safety is upheld as if the immersion suits were placed on the bridge itself.
(2) For the engine room the following to be taken into consideration.
The requirement of extra immersion suits in the engine room area may be deviated from if the following conditions are met:
(i) The engine area consists of a single room only
and
(ii) The immersion suits main stowage position is situated above the engine room with not more than one intervening deck.
and
(iii) The number of additional immersion suits for the engine room not to exceed the number of crew members normally working in the engine room.
3. For the forward/aft additional life raft(s) the DMA require the number of immersion suits to be minimum two (2) (Ref. SOLAS Chapter III, Regulation 31, 1.4).
