Amendment of requirement to different classes of dangerous goods except solid dangerous goods in bulk in regulation II-2/19 of SOLAS 1974

At the 85th Session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 85), Resolution MSC.269(85) was adopted in order to amend the requirements related to the carriage of dangerous goods in the regulation II-2/19 of SOLAS 1974. Table 19.3 - Application of the requirements to different classes of dangerous goods except solid dangerous goods in bulk is amended by the Resolution. Please refer to the attachment 1. about the Table 19.3.(The amendment are indicated in Italics.)

Regarding the retroactive application to ships constructed before 1 January 2011, it has been specified that a survey is to be carried out to verify compliance with the new requirement by the first renewal survey of the ships on or after 1 January 2011. Please fill out application form as attachment 2. and submit us with the first renewal survey application to alter the document of compliance special requirements for ship carrying dangerous goods. For details of the retroactive application, please refer to followings.

"The following ships, with cargo spaces intended for the carriage of packaged dangerous goods, shall comply with regulation 19.3, except when carrying dangerous goods specified as classes 6.2 and 7 and dangerous goods in limited quantities and excepted quantities in accordance with tables 19.1 and 19.3, not later than the date of the first renewal survey on or after the 1 January 2011:

1. cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards and passenger ships constructed on or after 1 September 1984 but before 1 January 2011; and

2. cargo ships of less than 500 gross tonnage constructed on or after 1 February 1992 but before 1 January 2011,

and notwithstanding these provisions:

3. cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards and passenger ships constructed on or after 1 September 1984 but before 1 July 1986 need not comply with regulation 19.3.3 provided that they comply with regulation 54.2.3 as adopted by resolution MSC.1(XLV);
