ClassNK informed all concerned of the implementation of ECDIS in ClassNK Technical Information TEC-0907.

Regarding paragraph 6. (3) TEC-0907 guidance on ECDIS installation, the ECDIS is required to display Radar video, ARPA information and AIS information.

This requirement is applied to main ECDIS for newbuilding ships and does not apply to backup ECDIS or ECDIS installed on board existing ships.

When the newbuilding ships are installed with an ECDIS which is:
1. not provided with a radar video overlay function,
2. not able to connect to other manufacturers radar,
or
3. when the newbuilding ships equipped with radar that does not provide an interface unit for radar video and ARPA function,

ClassNK will accept an ECDIS without any radar overlay under the following conditions:
1. The ECDIS should be located beside the radar display, and
2. All AIS information must be transferable to the ECDIS.
