ClassNK GWO Training Certification

ClassNK is the only certification body accredited by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) in Japan. Leveraging its long-standing expertise in establishing safety standards and certification activities in the maritime sector as a third-party inspection body, ClassNK provides trusted certification services to the wind energy industry.
The GWO training certification proves that workers in the wind energy sector are trained according to internationally recognized rigorous safety standards.
ClassNK reviews training providers and certifies that quality training is offered based on GWO standards.
Please note that ClassNK does not deliver GWO training. For any inquiries regarding getting GWO training, please contact directly the respective GWO certified training providers.

What is GWO? And What is GWO Training Certification?

The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is an international non-profit organization headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, established by wind turbine manufacturers and operators to create a safe working environment. GWO sets international standards for safety training in the wind industry.
Training Providers wishing to offer GWO-defined standard training (GWO training) are required to get certified by a Certification Body accredited by GWO. This certification confirms that the training provider meets GWO standards, utilizes the necessary equipment, and can conduct safe training in an appropriate environment.
ClassNK is a Certification Body capable of certifying against all training standards established by GWO.

Certification Process

Steps for Training Providers to get GWO certification from ClassNK are as follows

  • STEP01
    Understanding the GWO requirements & standards

    To become a GWO-accredited training provider, you start by reading the requirements for training providers and the training standard of the specific GWO training you wish to offer. The requirements for training providers include management system requirements for providing training, and the standard training specifications establish the standards for each training program.

  • STEP02
    Implement

    Once you have got familiar with the GWO requirements and standards, establish/modify your management system in accordance with GWO management system requirements, Create lesson plans in accordance with GWO training standards and deliver mock training until you are confident. This prepares you for the audit.

    Apply for an audit

    Submit your audit application for GWO certification to ClassNK. Upon acceptance of your application, you will be instructed for document submission, including the management system manual.

    Document Review (Stage 1 audit)

    ClassNK’s audit team reviews the submitted documents to confirm readiness for delivering training as well as for third-party auditing in accordance with GWO standards.

    On-site Audit (Stage 2 audit)

    ClassNK’s audit team observes training provided by the training provider and evaluates the training is delivered safely, as well as the content of the training and the facilities/equipment meet GWO standards.

    Issuance of Certificate

    ClassNK reports the audit results to GWO. Once it is confirmed that all standards are met, ClassNK issues a certification certificate. This allows the training provider to be listed in GWO’s website and to officially offer the specified GWO standard training as a GWO-accredited training provider.

    Continuous improvement

    After the initial certification, annual audits based on GWO standards are required. ClassNK continues to contribute to the Training Providers via providing useful information and insights.
